Founded in 2003 by a group of practicing dentists, dental technicians and dental professors of different universities from all over Europe, the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (ESCD) initially started as ESED with the term esthetic in its name (ESED).

It was a logical process, responding not only to the growing interest in esthetic and cosmetic dentistry by the public, but also to the respective needs of the European dentists and dental technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge in that field. There was a clear need for an open society which could be accessed by EVERY interested dentist, dental technician or other professional of this field. To augment our good relationship to the EAED (European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry) and drawing a significant distinction, the name change has been made in the beginning of 2007. Then the ESCD became an associate member of the IFED on 22nd February 2007.

With more than 600 members from 42 countries the ESCD also has 20 country chairpersons to fulfil the needs of the members. The society wants to put cosmetic dentistry throughout Europe on a solid, wide basis. The ESCD has various aims. Apart from the promotion of research and continuing education in the area of cosmetic and esthetic procedures in dentistry and dental laboratory techniques, it also provides a Europe-uniform quality assurance in these fields with certification. An annual scientific and office-oriented congress complements the concept.

Nowadays the ESCD has grown to a degree where it counts on the support of strong corporate partners in the dental industry who share its mission of advancing the art and science of cosmetic and dentistry all over Europe. The ESCD also maintains many strategic contacts with academies and societies from Europe and other regions of the world. This helps members to access the respective scientific activities reciprocally.

The Members of the ESCD emanate from virtually every sector of the dental profession. There are distinguished professors, dedicated full-time to academic tasks, and excellent dental professionals who also spend much time involved in continuing education, research and development, while others work hard in their offices and dental laboratories to achieve the best results for their patients and clients.  And all of them share a common interest in cosmetics and excellence in the quality of patient care!

This melting pot of dental professionals from all over Europe and also all over the world, enriches the ESCD and turns it into a platform for the exchange of ideas, techniques, data, results and helps.
